OVERSTEP exchange project

An innovative mobility project between Africa and Europe with the aim of developing work-study programmes in the agriculture, agri-food, tourism/hospitality and catering sectors.

Newdeal Institut Is the First French mobility agency partner of the Erasmus exchange pilot project to Africa

The international mobility agency Newdeal Institut is a partner in the Overstep pilot project. This innovative project aims to develop professional skills and promote the work-study sector in Africa and Europe.

The Overstep project is more specifically dedicated to education in the agriculture, agri-food and tourism, hotel and catering sectors.

THE OVERSTEP PROJECT

In January 2020, the European Commission decided to release 8.5 million euros for two pilot projects on the African continent. The European and African Union decided to invest in the skills of young people and supervisors. Overstep is an alliance between Europe and Africa that aims to develop teacher mobility between the two continents and share good practice. This project is the first exchange of its kind to Africa.

The Overstep project involves three European countries, namely Italy, France and Spain, but also almost 10 African countries, namely Benin, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.

The aim of this project is to offer students and teaching staff the opportunity to share the pedagogical methods of the work-study (sandwich) system in order to prepare young people for the world of work and the professional world in the agriculture, agri-food and tourism, hotel and catering sectors.

NEWDEAL, FRENCH PARTNER OF THE OVERSTEP PROJECT

Newdeal Institut is a training center based in Bordeaux. Offering language courses to all types of international or French-speaking people, this institute is also a mobility agency that welcomes students and teachers from different countries around the world.

Within the framework of this project linking these two continents, Newdeal Institut is the first French partner in this pilot project. Indeed, Overstep is the very first project of this scale to offer Europe-Africa mobility for these sectors.

The primary objective is to exchange teaching methods between institutions by inviting teachers to spend a period in France to understand these methods. It is also to foster cooperation and facilitate the employability of students. These students will have the opportunity to do an internship in Newdeal Institut’s partner companies in France in the tourism/hospitality, agri-food and agriculture sectors.

In addition, Newdeal Institute is in charge of recruiting 20 teachers who will be sent to different high schools in 10 African countries to strengthen this cooperation as well as the sharing of knowledge and tools while structuring innovative educational content.
